Position Purpose:   

The engineering group performs its work at the intersection of science and technology. The projects executed are complex in nature and incorporate aspects of mechanical engineering, electrical engineer, chemistry and software. This position predominantly revolves around the principles of mechanical engineering, though they also integrate elements of electrical engineering, chemistry, biology, and software. Thus, the team requires an expert with a deep grounding in mechanical engineering and a familiarity with the other three disciplines.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and engineering analysis of complex electro-mechanical products. Design responsibilities will cover all development phases from overall system level design and architecture to the detailed design of parts and assemblies and documentation.

Utilize engineering best practices, design principles and FEA analysis tools where necessary to solve engineer problems.

Coordinate with vendors for the fabrication, machining, and assembly of machined parts, sheet metal, and plastic molded components used in electro-mechanical systems.

Perform R&D with a targeted set of physical and performance goals.

Write and review technical documentation including test plans, requirements specs, operational manuals, test reports and fabrication plans.

Design and execution of test plans and identification of critical path elements to minimize risk on short life cycle projects.

Assist in the acquiring of new business by contributing to new proposals through the writing of technical sections.

Develop scopes of work, generates specifications, and oversees technical execution design, testing and validation of Signature Science engineering projects

Ensure projects execute per standard engineering and company practices, policies and procedures.

Coordinate with team members to meet requirements while adhering to budget and schedule.

Work with team to brainstorm, think creatively, sketch, design, model, fabricate, test and re-iterate through the design cycle to develop a unique solution.

Contribute to the design of systems through mechanical design utilizing SolidWorks, electrical design and software development.

Work as the CAD administrator to manage the Product Data Management system (PDM) in SolidWorks to maintain document and revision control.

Develop and implement rigorous test plans used in the verification and validation of Signature Science deliverables.

Develop scopes of work, generates specifications, and oversees technical execution design, testing and validation of Signature Science engineering projects.

Produce and review engineering piecepart and assembly drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).

Adhere to safety standards with a high degree of respect for employee safety and success.

Work in a Laboratory enviroment to build and test new products and systems.

Maintain Laboratory equipment including a Fortus 250 3D printer and Boss LS-1416 laser cutter.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Incumbent must be profficient in the use of SolidWorks for mechanical design. Incumbent must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel,  Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Project.

 

Education/Experience: Incumbent must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus a minimum of 2 years of experience.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

None required.

 

Clearance:

The position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET level clearance.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

 

Working Conditions/ Equipment:

  • Ability to sit or stand for long period of time at lab bench.
  • Must be able to lift light (e.g., 25lbs) loads.
  • Must be willing to travel (up to 25%) as needed for work or client meetings using commercial airlines.
